About Us

Welcome to Bearware LWCA! We are a worker run and worker owned game development studio, with projects that emphasize connection and bridging gaps; social connection, collectivized digital resources, and sharing in art all make up the core drivers of our work. Our focus is on creating genre-bending cooperative games set in the post-apocalypic war-torn world of the Ancient Aetherium as well as developing various resources for others to make their own Aetherian adventures, such as the CARDS table top roleplaying game.

Bearware LWCA is classified as a single-class collective worker cooperative, meaning that all parts of the organization are controlled directly by those working within it. This model of direct worker democracy (instead of a disjointed representative democracy) was first tested in the 1920s and proved to be effective when put into practice; we follow this model as closely as we can, with a central committee comprised of workers from across the orgranization. These are not representatives; they gain no resources form their position, maintain their presence and labor in the projects they are delegated from, and remove gaps that isolate the workers from the levers of power within Bearware LWCA. This is what we mean by worker run and worker owned; no shareholders, term-elected board, or professional executives tell us what to do. We run the show, design the tools, and make the games - we are the workers, and we run Bearware.
